This is the music most of the world will never catch up too ... they will always be two drinks behind. SO BE IT.
We Remember Brilliance ...
As tough as it was to survive being a jazz musician, and being miles ahead of the planet musically - it's a wonder they lasted as long as they did. Only a few made real money. It had to be for the beauty man, the beauty - because it sure wasn't for the bread.

He's been gone 50 years and is still way too modern for most ears.
Charlie 'Bird Parker (1920 - 1955)
Possibly, the GREATEST MUSICIAN who ever lived.
"If you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn."
Outside of DUKE ELLINGTON - Why are the three most FAMOUS names in JAZZ HISTORY all trumpet players?
Louis Armstrong Miles Davis Wynton Marsalis
(Early Era) (Middle Era) (Current Era)
PEOPLE NOT EVEN FAMILIAR WITH JAZZ know THESE NAMES
There was one trumpeter who would get respect
and maybe induce a little fear at the same time -
to any of the above, and that would be
WOODY SHAW
(1944-1989)

If all you listen to is todays' new jazz CDs, you are missing out on a ton of GREAT STUFF.
The current crop of musicians may be well educated and schooled in jazz, but many are
sterile, cold and really sound alike, actually like robots. And don't even get us started on FEMALE SINGERS!
The lady who really stands out to us in the past 10 years, is British songstress, CLAIRE MARTIN.
Yes, Yes, Yes - We like DIANA KRALL - How could you NOT?
The lady has talent!

Our JAZZ LIST has the recordings that gave these Artists the reputation they truly earned. Upon hearing them the first time, you take notice and say: "Who Was That?" We seem to favor the ones musicians themselves like the best.

Some words of wisdom to young artists - THIS IS WHAT YOU ARE UP AGAINST ... So the next time you're in a Studio, MAKE IT COUNT! -'Cause it's all you're going to
leave on this earth that will possibly endure.
Oh my God! He's enjoying a smoke inside.
There was only one Frank!
The muscians' Singer. The one man who always gave
CREDIT to the WRITER.
If the world is still here in 100 years, his recordings will still be played.
Can you say the same for Michael Jackson?

With so many people now producing their own CD's, the major labels have to be hurting. If it were not for all the treasured stuff they keep in their vaults (like many recordings on the JAZZLIST) , they'd be on the way out.
This is the foundation to all great music. The better the tune, the better the solos.
The Words are the HEART
The Music is the MIND and
YOU are the soul.

Bring Back VINYL ... and make it VIRGIN!

(1909 - 1959)

Make no mistake about it - the jazz world is not what it once was. I'm speaking for the American side. Perhaps, it can be compared to the NBA. There's really only a few teams worth watching each season - the rest are just mediocrity at best. Other countries have improved - I don't think we have - there is just too much sameness and complacency in things today. Everyone just seems to go along.
Where have all the innovators gone?
